Ruth White

Ruth White was born in the Appalachian hills of Virginia. She lived there until she graduated from high school and went to college. Ruth started writing at a young age. Ruth became a teacher and then the school librarian. Ruth loves writing books.

Summary

This one girl named Ruby June was found one day in Way down. Ruby then stayed at the roost until she wondered about where she came from so she thought about it then she took it to the Sheriff. The sheriff then found a detective that thought that Ruby June was the same girl as the one that everyone said that was stolen by a panther. Ruby then stayed at her grandma’s house and then Miss Arbutus got the detective and told him the whole story how in a dream she brought Ruby to Way Down. After that everything was sorted out.

Problem

The problem is that 10 years ago a girl on Yonder Mountain, West Virginia disappeared and another girl that looked like that other girl was found in Way Down, Virginia.

Main Characters

  • Ruby- a red headed girl that was lost on Yonder Mountain and found in Way Down.
  • Miss Arbutus- owner of the roost and doesn't talk a lot.
  • Goldie Combs- Ruby's grandmother that lives on Yonder Mountain.
  • Jethro- he is the goat that likes to stand on cars when people come to stay at the roost.

Setting

The setting takes place in Way Down, West Virginia, and Yonder Mountain, Virginia, in the 1950's.
